Rostocker Maschinenbau at the IMG site: a fresh start through strategic development

The long-established mechanical engineering site of Ingenieurtechnik und Maschinenbau GmbH (IMG) in Rostock is entering a significant new phase: following successful renovation and restructuring, industrial use of the site will continue, thereby securing an important industrial heritage in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

At the end of October 2024, IMG filed for insolvency. Despite this difficult situation, a solution emerged in the following months that would preserve both the location and jobs. As part of the insolvency proceedings, a viable future for IMG was developed under the leadership of insolvency administrator Ulrich Rosenkranz from the law firm BRRS Rechtsanwälte in Hamburg. The negotiations ultimately led to the takeover of the property and production capacities by SLV M-V GmbH at the end of 2025.

This takeover marks a milestone for the industrial relaunch at the former IMG site: together with its subsidiaries, SLV M-V is not only laying the foundations for preserving skilled jobs, but also providing impetus for a new centre of excellence in welding technology, modern manufacturing and special machine construction in Rostock. “When selecting a buyer, it was important to us to find a partner who is both economically sound and who will continue the industrial tradition of this location.

In recent months, SLV M-V has impressively demonstrated that it has the necessary expertise and regional ties to develop this location sustainably and secure jobs in the long term,” said lawyer and insolvency administrator Ulrich Rosenkranz. This solution lays the foundation for the future-oriented development of the Rostock location in mechanical and plant engineering.
